Tuesday, April 29, 2008

The Victorian era wasn't always a happy time for children - as these portraits from today go to show. Scroll down for a gallery where you can see a slideshow. The password's the same as normal. Email Mr Millington at school if you'd like the full resolution image to print or keep. More pictures from Victorian Day coming during this week.

Fete photos - coming soon!

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Oh dear! Looks like Ms Travi isn't particularly enjoying her turn on the soak the teacher stall!

A photo gallery of fete photos coming soon. If you have any good pictures from last Saturday, email them to Mr Millington at school and we can share them with everyone.

The last supper, or rather lunch.

A quick hello from the beach where we're just eating lunch. Back to the dorms for a shower and change to wash off the jungle dirt, then leave at 1pm. Class reps will update you on our expected arrival time if it's looking like being different to 5pm.

Breaking Camp

...and moving out. more later!

Good night from the jungle

Thursday, March 6, 2008

A quick update from our camp deep in the jungle. After a 3 hr hike through the forest we pitched our tents, had a paddle in the river then cooked our lovely tinned food in bamboo pots over the campfire. Marshmallows were toasted, a few songs sung, and even a couple of scary stories exchanged before retiring to tents for good night and lights out. All children have been fantastic today and, for many of them, the hike through the jungle then setting up camp has been the highlight of the trip so far. Tomorrow morning we hike out then have another sports activity before lunch and heading home. We plan to be back by 5pm but will update progress through our class reps and here on the website. Anyway, children say goodnight and see you tomorrow! :-)

Tents going up..!

Spot the child!

JEST Camp

Here's one of the instructors demonstrating how to make cooking kit from bamboo just this morning. We're just having lunch then off into the jungle this afternoon.

Morning Campers!

Unbelievably, pretty much everyone was tucked up in bed and fast asleep by 8.30pm last night and we've had a good recharge ready for today's jungle action. We're just on the way to breakfast - the sun is shining and people are happy! More later.

Greetings from Subic on day one!

Wednesday, March 5, 2008

Hello everyone! We've had a great first day here in Subic. The journey was quick and easy, our lunch on the beach was very tasty, the activities this afternoon went really well, the weather has been fantastic (if a bit breezy), and our late afternoon and evening at the yacht club, where we are now, was great too. This photo is everyone just before eating our evening meal. Now it's back to the dorms and hopefully lots of sleep to get ready for our jungle adventure tomorrow! All the best from all of us :-)

Tent practice - a great success!

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Yesterday we had our first go at assembling tents, in preparation for the Subic trip.

First, the teachers showed children how the 'professionals' do it in the calm, quiet and windless conditions of the ballet room (and Ms Travi went to sleep in the tent!)

Then it was into groups and outside for the practice. It went very well on the whole, with the only problems being a few big gusts of wind and a couple of groups thinking that screwing up their tent at the end would be the best way to get everything back in the bag!

Our next practice will be during the week after half term. Thanks to everyone who bought their own tents in, especially if you already knew how to put it up! You can see some more pics if you look in the 'Files and Photos' box on the right.

Dragon Dancers

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

The Dragon Dancers from Tondo came to school yesterday as part of year 2's Chinese New Year celebrations. Here's a quick clip of the display they gave us at the end of lunch.

Photos from our assembly

Here are loads of photos from our assembly last Friday. Thanks to Mr Davies for writing it, parents and Miss Gemma for making such great costumes and props, and to all year five children for their performance.

Check out the new Year Six Site!

Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Year six now also have their own website over at http://yearsixsite.blogspot.com. Mr Turner and the year six teachers are busy uploading links to great websites, puzzles, news from class and photos from things going on in the year group. And they're putting up lots of cool stuff!

If you'd like to look at the photos or video from the Corregidor trip, or any other photos or videos for that matter, the password's the same as ours.

Have a look!

Our assembly tomorrow!

Thursday, January 31, 2008

Mr Davies scratches his head, but actually everything's coming together well for our assembly tomorrow (Friday). This morning we tried on our costumes and this afternoon it's the dress rehearsal in the hall. Looking forward to the assembly itself - we'll put some pictures up on the site tomorrow.

Space Diaries

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Space Diaries is another new site where our intrepid Year 5 space travellers will be logging some of the weird and wonderful things they’ve encountered on their adventures around the galaxy….and beyond!

Different adventurers will write up their diary entries - explaining where they’ve been, what it was like, and what they’ve found out. Voyages will start from and end up back at our space station orbiting Earth, where the picture above was taken from.

Other people can write up replies to the diary entries, asking questions or making general comments about their voyage into space.

So - start thinking about your adventure - where would you like to go? A planet or moon in our Solar System? An asteroid belt? Another ‘close’ star, like Alpha Centauri? Search for alien life on a new planet? Somewhere else in our galaxy, the Milky Way? Another galaxy? A black hole?

Check out the site at http://spacediaries.wordpress.com... if there's nothing there yet - maybe you could be first to blast off into space! See Mr Millington for details.

Welcome to the site!

This is a new blog set up for children in year 5 and their parents, written by the year 5 teachers. Appearing here will be a mixture of things. Firstly there'll be lots of links to websites that will help learn about our current topics. In the next few weeks we'll be putting up pictures of some of our best work from school, and we're also going to start making podcasts during this half term too.

In the downloads box on the right there will be files that it might be useful for children or parents to have access to.
